I was planning to go to Phillip Island to see the penguins today, but grand prix car racing on the island deterred us. We figured it may detract from wildlife spottings and would prolong the trip home with additional traffic. That trip will probably have to wait until after Christmas.
Instead, Narelle and I set out for some retail therapy in the city. We were both on a mission to complete our ensembles for the work Christmas party the next Friday. Shockingly, I haven't been clothes shopping since I arrived in Melbourne, so I was understandably caught up in something of a spree. I was in for a fashion awakening. Narelle guided me into all the lanes and arcades of hoity toity shops with price tags that made my jaw drop - the girl has good taste! The stores were different, fashion was different, sizes were different, and the prices were different. A U.S. size 6 is a 10 or 12 in Australia. Feeling good girls? Prices are double or triple what you'd expect to pay in the U.S., except I'm told you can buy uber nice suits for reasonable prices here. I'm still not acclimated to the limited shopping hours here, as in Europe. The shops close by 5 or 6 PM every day of the week with late opening times on the weekends, if open at all. Who are these people that want to have a life? I emerged with a few things - now I just need some leggings to complete the real Melbourne 80's look - ya right! I did manage to find a black skirt with satin stripes at the bottom to go with my sequin top with a satin belt. Amazing!!
