Saturday Feb 7 marked the hottest day ever on record in Melbourne at a scorching 46.4 degrees Celsius (115 F), with some of the suburbs at 48 C (118 F). The heat brought with it Australia's worst 'natural disaster' as well. We are experiencing an unprecedented wildfire season attributable to record high temperatures, drought, high wind, and low humidity. Sadly, a couple fires are being investigated for deliberate arson. The death toll stands at 181 currently with 1,834 homes destroyed along with 1.1 million acres of land. Damages from the bushfires are estimated to exceed $2 billion AUD. About 7,000 people have been left homeless.

A striking image of a firetruck positioned just beyond the fire. Makes you wonder how they can possibly stop such a mammoth wave of fire from such a comparitively tiny vehicle.

Thankfully, I am in the clear for now. The closest fires are approximately 20 km away from where I live. Thank you to those who have been checking in on me.
I was very thankful to be at my friend Mel's house on the hottest day ever in Melbourne history, as my house does not have A/C. We stayed cool in the house most of the day and busted out some guitar hero that evening!

This was my first introduction to guitar hero but I found it somewhat similar to Dance Dance Revolution. Oddly enough, I did better on the songs I didn't know. Hmmm...
