I attended my first Aussie barbie (BBQ) Saturday night. They say it's something you HAVE to do when you're in Australia. One of the guys from work, Robo, just bought a new house and needed to break it in. It was a little cold and drizzly, but he had a warm bonfire going in the backyard. It was about half work people and half others. I met a really nice couple that I enjoyed talking with - they're moving into the country in a few weeks. That seems to be my tendency. I like to make friends with people that are moving. Three times now. Hmmmm... Also met a few people that should be around for a while, I think. Another girl from work was having a pirate party, but it seemed like far too much work to find my way there in the dark. I ended up cabbing it home with the couple moving to the country (they live near me).
Today I did a little shopping on Brunswick St in Fitzroy, my favorite shopping strip to date, then wrapped up at Myer in the CBD. Myer and David Jones are the two big department stores in Melbourne. It's the end of the fiscal year for them, so there were huge sales. I got a bunch of Lonely Planet and other tour guides for 40% off (New Zealand, Southeast Asia, China, Japan). Bring on the spreadsheets!!! I had to stop by work to pick up books for training - I'm going to some REALM training Mon-Wed (water allocation software). I spent a lot of time on overly crowded trams today, and waiting for trams, and walking in the rain between trams and destinations... I MISS MY CAR!
