Karon Beach

The first order of business was meeting with Mr. A, our tour guide who advised against swimming in the beach when red flags are posted and renting motor bikes or jetskis as they are uninsured. The next order of business was a much needed load of laundry in the tub. We had clothes hanging everywhere around our room.

We saw countless signs and menus with humorous misspellings. We particularly liked this one.

We walked down to Karon Beach where Katie swam with red flags posted. Bad Katie! I lounged on the sand soaking up the rays then hiding out under my umbrella as the rain poured down on us. Yes, we did knowingly go to Phuket during Monsoon season, but does it have to rain??

We enjoyed some hot soup at a dodgy looking hole-in-the-wall restaurant (quite delicious) and bought watermelon from a fruit stand en route to our hotel. I am really missing the fruit stands! The rain persisted but we figured if we were going to be wet, we might as well go swimming in the rain, so we bounced around the hotel pool before showering and cozying up to a movie in the room.

We headed back to Patong as the nightlife there was clearly more happening there than in Karon Beach. After dinner, we found Kangaroo Bar where we met a slew of local "Sunrise Diving" instructors. Let the dancing begin!

The yellow and green rope hangs just below a large bell, which when rung means that every person in the bar gets a shot! Woo! We knew we liked this place...

We also made friends with these girls from New Zealand and Sydney, both on their honeymoons.

These girls look fun...
