Casey's Farewell

Casey 'Texas' Wauters had his last day of work on Friday May 15, ready to return to the U.S. A big crew joined him for an italian lunch at EGusto to see him off. Around this table from L to R we have Stefano, Casey, Cara, Haacky, Dexter, Patrick, Jeanne, Brad, Mike, and Alvin.

My table from L to R: Christophe, Andrew, Jamie, Duncan, Kelly, Mike, and Cass

And table number 3 brings us (starting with back left): Robo, Dills, Rocco, John, Tim, Lily, Emily, Lukas, and Elliot.

The festivities continued at Friday Night Drinks.

Another shot of the level 6 lunch room.

And now for a few of my favorite people. Here we have Mhairi, headed back to the UK shortly.

And here's the classiest lady in URS, Danni Petroni!

Spurred by my appreciation of risotto at lunch that day (on nearly every Australian menu) and unfamiliarity with cooking it, Cass invited me over for an impromptu yet very professional cooking lesson that evening. She and Dills recently moved into this great Collingwood apartment and Glenn and I were kind enough to participate in their first dinner party. When we arrived, Cass already had all the ingredients chopped and separated into small bowls, like on the cooking shows. We made a mean risotto which we all enjoyed around the table. The dinner was interrupted only by Dills' instruction of how to bounce a footy which I did on only the second try!

Dills and Glenn relaxed while the women folk did all the work. Well... Dills did pour the wine.

Next stop of the evening was Builders Arms in Fitzroy where Casey's sendoff continued. Matthew Newton was in the bar that evening. He plays a key role in the Australian TV series Underbelly about the drug mafia. Unabashed and on the grog, I went and had a nice conversation with him. He'd finished filming Underbelly four months ago and was filming something new at the moment. The papers reported that he'd stopped drinking, though I was quite sure he had a beer in hand when I spoke with him. Caught in the act!

Brendan and Dan joined us for a few drinks at Builders Arms, then we continued onto The Peel for more dancing!
