Milford Sound

We narrowly averted breakfast at the gas station until the attendant suggested the bakery down the street. Fed and ready to roll, we jumped on the road to Milford Sound.

We liked this snow capped mountain along the way.

We took this slanty family pic from the car. Catch us when we fall, Lisa!

We passed through a couple tunnels carved into the mountains.

Here's a taste of the twisting, curving, winding roads we drove along to reach Milford Sound.

Another shot of the winding roads.

Our Lady of the Sounds Red Boat Cruise! Katie and Dad ran through the parking lot so that we could board the earlier departure rather than waiting more than an hour for our booked time.

We passed a few large waterfalls throughout the Sound.

The clouds were still lifting when we started our cruise.

There's the sun! And rainbows to boot.

This waterfall is believed to be a fountain of youth.

Mom tipped back a little far into the fountain of youth.

How funky does the waterfall look on the water surface as we pull away from it?!

Katie and Lisa entertained the whole boat with a singing and dancing rendition of 'Joyful, Joyful'.

Oh, get into it sista!!

We cruised through the Sound out to the Tasman Sea.

me with WILD hair at Milford Sound. It was super windy... can you tell?

We saw fur seals and dolphins in our tour around Milford Sound.

The Sorenson women with the Red Boat Cruise crew: David from Queenstown, Richard the boat captain, Mike the commentator, and Jasmine from Malaysia. We had a pretty small group on the boat and we got more attention than you can imagine.

David barely left our sides during the cruise.

Ah yes, those are the reflections we see in books. Good job Sorenson photographers!

We drove from Milford Sound to Queenstown, stopping in sleepy Te Anau for lunch. We passed countless sheep in New Zealand where they are said to outnumber people at a ratio of 10 to 1.

You wouldn't want to try counting sheep here!

We arrived at our St Moritz luxury hotel in Qeenstown on a foggy, cloudy evening, and got ready to head out for a night on the town. We had a great family dinner at Brazz after walking around the town, then sent Mom and Dad on their way, so we could have a girls night out on Lisa's only night in Queenstown.

We started at The World Bar.

Lisa and I took full advantage of their Happy Hour half-price teapots with a variety of cocktail concoctions.

Even Katie enjoyed a Ruby Luby or two. She had her first drink of the year at this very bar, per her out of country clause.

This was some kind of apple cocktail at World Bar, but then we followed that with jager bombs at Monte's after a quick in and out at Subculture dance club.

All the hippies and pot heads were at Dux de Lux. We didn't last long here.

The we went to Winnie's which boasted good dance music and a very young crowd.

Katie and Lisa busted a move at Debajo, which had more electro/funk music.

Our seventh and last stop of the evening was at Buffalo, our favorite bar with great dancing and a good vibe.

More of the patrons at Buffalo. The DJ was cute and mixing well, best music we heard all night.
